The gym essentials you keep with you can really make a difference not only to inspire you to actually go to the gym or to workout but to enhance your workout and improve your chance of achieving your fitness goals. Today I am going to talk about my absolute favorite items that will help any busy mom stay fit.
A Good Water Bottle
The first thing you must always keep on hand is a good water bottle! Matter of fact the bigger the better. You need to keep yourself hydrated. I keep several water bottles around the house. Mr Viking, Storebror and Lillesøstre all have water bottles that they take with them where ever they go! Me I always keep one with my on my bedside table, in my book bag, and in the car.
In my opinion you can never have too many water bottles. I really love water bottles that be used for not only cold drinks but warm drinks as well because during the winter here a warm drink is always appreciated. This Naglene Wide Mouth Bottle does just the trick. It is 32 ounces and keeps drinks both cool and warm. This Hydro Flask Double Wall Vacuum Water Bottle is another great option. It comes in multiple sizes and colors for the entire family.
Having the right equipment around your house so you don’t have to go the gym to get a good workout is definitely a must if you are a busy mom like me. Sometimes I barely have time to think let alone drive 20 minutes to the gym workout and then drive the 20 minutes home again. So nowadays I do most of my workouts at home in the comfort of my living room. So must have equipment you need to keep on hand are:
- Resistance Loop Exercise Band Set- I love using resistance bands because one they are lightweight and easy to pack up and they don’t take up a ton of room in my house! Second I can do a lot of home exercises with them that don’t require any special skills or knowledge. They are also simple and easy to use.
- Fitness Ball– Using a Fitness ball really helps work your core. Not to mention they are just fun to play with as well. I also tend to use my fitness ball as a chair instead of an uncomfortable wooden chair at my desk. It really has helped my back and posture.
- Yoga Mat– I have talked about the benefits of Yoga several times. Yoga is one of my favorite ways to relax in the evenings, start my day, and well its perfect when I need a little me time. Having a great quality Yoga mat is a must!
- Workout Videos– Having your favorite workout videos are a must. Of course there are a lot of free resources on Youtube but having a set of DVDs can really make the difference for your fitness goals. One of the all time favorites in the P90X Workout Videos or for some fun try the Zumba Fitness Slimdown System.
A Gym Bag
You must have an great bag to keep all your work out gear in especially if you are heading to the gym instead of working out at home! I have two gym bags one I use exclusively for my workouts at home and one I take with me to the gym or to gymnastics practice.
The gym bag I head to the gym with has a shoe pocket especially for my Tennis shoes! I love it as here in Norway I have separate shoes for in the gym and outside running shoes. Using Protein Powder can really help enhance the effect of your workout. You should use protein right after you workout to help your body grow. I also love to add some protein powder into my breakfast smoothies so that they help replenish the protein my body lost throughout the night. I know when you go to purchase Protein Powder in can becoming very overwhelming with all the choices. I purchase a Vegan, Organic, GMO Free Protein Powder called Orgain Plant Based Protein Powder. They have several flavors as well as other options such as Whey Protein and a Gluten Free option.
Using a Fitness Tracker like the Fitbit Blaze Smart Fitness Watch can really help you and inspire you to take more steps and move around more during the day. It almost becomes a game to see how many steps you can take throughout the day. Whether we walk up and down the stairs in our home to do laundry, clean or more these steps add up throughout the day to help us achieve our goals easier and quicker.
In addition to it keeping track of your steps it will also encourage other healthy habits throughout your day like eating better and drinking more water. My absolute favorite brand of Fitness trackers are Fitbit. While I love the Fitbit Blaze it is much to big for my dainty wrist so I love the Fitbit Alta. It is the perfect size for me! Plus it comes in several different colors and independent companies are making some fabulous jewelry items to wear it.
The final category I want to talk about is inspiration when you are actually working out. Inspiration for me is what music I am listening too! When Im outside running or at the gym I need something that is fast paced, and will make me want to move. My favorite source for music is Spotify. Spotify has a great program that is called Running. It matches songs you love with the tempo of your running for a perfect environment. You can also preset your tempo so you are forced to run a little faster.
On top of a good music source you need your IPhone or IPod (yeah yeah I know they aren’t making them anymore), an armband to hold it and some fantastic Wireless Sweatproof Earbuds. With these earbuds you can listen to all your favorite songs without worrying about how much you sweat or cords that you might pull out of your ears while running! I absolutely love how far technology has come.
