If you have never been a morning person, then it certainly won’t happen quickly but it is certainly possible. It just takes a few simple steps and a little bit of practice each day to master the early morning and before you know it you will be accomplishing more before noon than you ever imagined.
Early to bed.
This sounds easier said than done, but if you can try going to bed even an hour earlier than usual, it can help get you up and at ‘em the next morning. Between your job stress and family demands, decompressing at night can be difficult. Try turning off your cell phone, computer, and the TV early and avoid caffeine or alcohol close to bedtime.
Turn it up.
Once your alarm goes off, get up and turn on the lights and open the curtains to let the bright lights get your eyes adjusted to the new day. The natural light can help you wake up a little more quickly, so if the weather permits, open up the windows for better lighting.
Since you have hopefully slept a little longer, you can get up earlier, so get outside and take a brisk walk. Not only is this great exercise, it will wake up all your senses and get you going for the day.
If you don’t already have one, get yourself a programmable coffee maker. Not only will the fresh aroma of coffee help get you out of bed, but it will be waiting for you when you get to the kitchen.
Don’t ever forget to have the most important meal of the day, so do your best to make it a healthy one. Our metabolism and blood sugar levels tend to decrease overnight as we sleep so don’t just have your coffee. Getting some energy through breakfast is a great way to fuel up and get moving in the morning.
If you can avoid it, try not to nap during the day. Not only will you have more trouble falling asleep that night, but you could very well just stay asleep and miss the rest of your night. Your whole sleep cycle could be disrupted if you nap too long each day.
Try an app.
With all of the new technology out there, of course there is ‘an app for that.” Try Wake n Shake or Sleep Cycle Apps that can do wonders for getting you out of bed. Sleep Cycle is amazing and can sense your movements and determines the best times to wake you during a predetermined window.
