Sitting under our TV currently (not my favorite place for it but the only location it can be) is my Great Grandmother’s (Nannie) cedar chest. It is one of my favorite pieces in our apartment! When we moved halfway around the world from Tennessee to Norway there was no option it was coming with us. It is a simple piece that brings back hundreds of childhood memories with my two cousins. The scent of Cedarwood also sparks these memories. See this beautiful Cedar chest once upon a time had that beautiful cedar smell. The scent is long gone but thankfully now that I have found Cedarwood Essential Oil it once again has the scent that reminds me of being in Nannie’s room.
Cedarwood essential oil of course has a warm woodsy scent. Something about it makes you feel like home! Cedar is best known for keeping moths away and cooking on the grill but it can be used for so much more than that!
Here are my top 5 uses for Cedarwood Essential Oil:
Cedarwood has sedative properties so its perfect to use to help you sleep! The scent invokes relaxation and it has an overall calming effect. I normally diffuse it in the evenings after dinner to help the kids get ready for their bedroom routines. I also have my Sleepy Time Salve that uses Cedarwood for those nights that sleep is impossible!
Cedarwood is fabulous for your hair and scalp. Cedarwood oil can help and support your hair follicles so that your hair can grow longer and stronger. In addition to supporting your circulatory system it is also a great oil to help with dry skin on your scalp. Be careful because sometimes Cedarwood can cause skin irritation so try a small patch first. I use it on a weekly basis by putting a couple of drops in my shampoo letting it sit for 5-10 minutes then rinsing it out.
We all know the Cedar helps keep those pesky moths away! It can also keep other pesky insects away! I love combining Cedarwood with Lemongrass and Citronella to create an easy DIY bug repellent.
Cedarwood in addition to supporting the circulatory system and nervous system also supports your respiratory system making it one of my first grabs when someone has a cold or flu. My Sleepy Time Salve can be used for more than just catching some Zzz’s it is also perfect to help boost your immune system and supporting your respiratory system.
Because of its fabulous woodsy scent it makes it the perfect essential oil to add to a home fabric spray or even a DIY cologne (for men and women)! I love making a simple DIY Cologne for Mr. Viking sporting this amazing scent. It makes me think he has been trekking in the forest all day!
As you can see there are many uses of Cedarwood Essential Oil and this is only my favorite 5 uses there are many more. I use Cedarwood weekly and sometimes even daily and I believe it is a Must Have oil!
