As a teenager I had horrible acne and sometimes still today I have breakouts. There are many causes of acne some are easier to control while others are out of our hands. While growing up I tried every acne product I could to help deal with my trouble spots, some helped slightly, some not at all.
When I discovered essential oils one of the first things I wanted to make was something to help when I had a breakout. With that in mind I started researching which essential oils would help in supporting healthy and beautiful skin.
Throughout my research I discovered several essential oils would support healthy skin. With this knowledge I got to work in my kitchen to come up with a perfect solution. In the end I had the best homemade acne treatment that I could have dreamed of. It truly has made a difference.
There are 4 essential oils that comprise this recipe and then of course my favorite carrier oil coconut oil. Why does this recipe work?
Coconut oil has a number of health benefits which is one of the reasons I always keep some on hand. It is absorbed quickly into the skin and helps nourish the skin. Another reason I choose to use Coconut Oil in many of my homemade products is because it is a stable oil and it doesn’t go bad.
The essential oils in this acne treatment are Lemon, Lavender, Frankincense, and Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca). Let’s look at each of these oils individually.
Lemon Essential Oil- Lemon essential oil is one of the main oils used for cleansing which is why it is the perfect addition for this acne treatment. It also helps to soothe and nourish your skin leaving it feeling refreshed.
Lavender Essential Oil- Lavender essential oil is what we consider the swiss army knife of oils. It is the one oil I always have on hand (actually several bottles just to make sure). Lavender oil is added because it supports rapid healing for many skin issues including acne.
Frankincense Essential Oil- Frankincense oil is from the resin of Boswellia carterii tree. Frankincense helps by supporting the body’s defense of bacteria especially on the skin.
Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca)- Tea tree oil is another essential oil I always have on hand. It has the benefit of being an antibacterial oil. This comes in handy for this acne cream. It also helps nourish and cleanse the skin.
